The Top 3 Myths Steering You Away From A Business-focused Mindset
My biggest realisation this year was that I need to start thinking like a CEO, get everything off my plate that isn’t bringing in money and bring in someone else to help me achieve my goals.
This made me wonder… Do you think and function like a CEO with a business-focused mindset? Or are negative and unproductive myths ruling over you?
Let me explain what I mean.
I value my time at $10,000 an hour. So when I’m writing emails, browsing on social media or doing anything for the business, I think to myself, in this hour, am I going to lose, make or get closer to making $10,000?
If you are doing something that isn’t helping you bring in revenue, aren’t you operating at a loss and snatching away quality time with your family or yourself?
If the show stops when you stop working, something’s not right. It has been said before, and I will say it again – you don’t have to do it all alone forever.
In this blog, we are going to bust some myths and help you accept a business-focused mindset.
Myth #1 – I’m just a small business owner
Your revenue, number of clients or years in the industry do not dictate when you should start thinking and operating like a CEO. The biggest mistake you can make is not seeing yourself as the business owner, CEO and decision maker starting day one.
Maybe you have just transitioned from a leisurely freelancer, coach or consultant for years to taking it to the next level… but you are a digital entrepreneur now, aren’t you?
Give into that mindset shift if you want to succeed.
Here’s the way out
- Hire people who are better at doing the work than you
- Give the inexperienced and freshers a chance
- Make the time to train and mentor your team
- Stay consistent with quality and value when marketing
- Have a plan to grow and scale up
Myth #2 – No one can do my work as well as I can
I’m sorry to break it to you – you’re lying to yourself if you truly believe that!
The fact is – we’ve all been there, and done that. Some of us take the leap and others may never be brave enough to consider it.
Now for instance, if you don’t want to check emails anymore, do you really think you cannot find somebody else to do it? Maybe even do it better than you?
Here’s the way out
Listen closely, and give this 3-step solution a shot…
Step 1: Specialize
Take a step back, observe your routine and the work that you do. Make a list of all the tasks you need help with, that you don’t want to do anymore or that could be done by somebody else.
Step 2: Systemize
Create a set of systems and processes for each of those tasks. Break it down clearly into smaller steps, add an objective and the expected outcome.
Step 3: Productize
Hire the right team members, train them to get accustomed to your systems and when they are ready, let them take over. What it means to productize is to empower your team to learn, grow and produce amazing work based on your methodologies, your frameworks and your processes – so your results align.
Myth #3 – I don’t know if I will ever find a team that’s good enough
Stop worrying and wallowing with the ifs, buts and hows and start taking action!
Make a decision, have a plan, get right down to work, build that momentum, and then figure it out along the way. That is what entrepreneurs do, right?
Here’s the way out
Many of us forget a very basic and essential factor of having a business-focused mindset – no one wants to hire a bad fit!
Whether you realise it or not – you’re always on the lookout for someone who is good at what they do, even if not the best. You can either take a chance on someone who wants an opportunity to learn from you or someone who is already an expert.
Decide what kind of people you want to work with, start hunting and there’s no reason you won’t find the perfect fit for your amazing business.
