Productivity Hacks For Business Owners: The Importance Of Taking Time Out
I’m sure you’re slammed with tons of work but I’m glad you took a moment to jump onto my blog today because I want to talk to you about something crucial.
Have you ever said any of this in your life?
“Oh, I’m swamped with work, I can’t make it to the dinner”
“I haven’t had a whole weekend off in months!”
“I need a vacation but what do I do about work?”
Here’s what you don’t hear enough of nowadays:
To take some time out, breathe and rejuvenate is more important than the prolonged hours of work you put in.
Productivity hacks for business owners: I take two to three days off to do, well, nothing! No laptops, no emails, no Facebook groups and in essence – no work.
So my brain can process work better, get some space, come up with new ideas and win over the world with creativity and innovation!
As business owners, we think the more we get done, the better, given the endless list of tasks you have to get done.
We keep this up for far too long and eventually begin to feel the proverbial burn out.
You go from loving everything about what you do to feeling tired, not enjoying your work as much, and struggling to keep your spirit alive day in and day out.
If you have felt like this before or if you still do… you need to take some time out right now!
Enough of longingly scrolling through amazing photos of people across the world doing what they love and having some fun – live your life.
2 ways to free up some time and keep your business running
1. Hire help
If you have a serious case of FOMO (fear of missing out), delegate your tasks to an awesome VA.
If you are waiting for the “right time” to do this, you may as well keep waiting for months and maybe even years. Remember, everyone needs help after a point – both you and me!
When you know exactly what needs to be done when you are away or out on vacation, you can always hire someone for $15 to $25 an hour and delegate.
Instead of labelling this as “expenses”, think about it as an investment.
You will be shelling out a few hundred dollars for a few hours of work each week to ensure things are still running smoothly while you are unavailable.
Isn’t that amazing?!
Change your perspective to change your life.
2. Use efficient tools
There are several easy and efficient management tools available out there today for an affordable price – some even for free!
If you know the tasks, deliverables and due dates – you can pop these information to Asana, Notion or Google Sheets for your team to know.
Have your team update the status or reach out to you if they need any help.
Pro Tip: Try Loom to record how everything needs to be done and share the video links!
Keep it organised, easy to understand and efficient to ensure not only that the work is done but that it is done the right way.
Final thoughts on productivity hacks for business owners
What will you write or talk about if you are not out living your life?
If you are “at work” ten hours a day, writing emails, firefighting, checking off your task list and doing it all yourself, do you have anything new and exciting to talk about?
That’s not to say give up on your work or all other productivity hacks that keep you running.
Continue to do what you are doing – the Pomodoro technique or apps to block your apps.
But do schedule your time off.
